R.I.S.E. Learning takes a personalized, student-centered approach to tutoring. Each session is thoughtfully designed to support the individual student’s learning style, strengths, and areas for growth. Instruction focuses on building confidence, strengthening foundational skills, and helping students develop effective learning strategies while fostering a positive attitude toward learning.
R.I.S.E. Learning offers several tutoring formats designed to support different learning needs:
Private Sessions – One-on-one instruction tailored to the individual student’s needs, focusing on personalized learning goals and targeted skill development.
Semi-Private Sessions – A shared session for two students with similar learning goals. These sessions balance individualized attention with opportunities for peer learning.
Small Group Sessions – Small group instruction (typically 3–5 students) focused on grade-level skills while encouraging collaboration and interactive learning.
Enrichment Camps – Seasonal small-group camps that combine academic skill-building with hands-on activities, games, and social interaction in a supportive learning environment.
Absolutely. I typically recommend starting with a private session, where I can observe your child’s current skills and learning style. During this session, I conduct an informal baseline assessment to better understand strengths and areas for growth. Based on these observations, I can recommend the type of tutoring format that will best support your child’s goals.
My instructional approach draws from several well-established educational frameworks that emphasize hands-on learning, strong foundational skills, and clear instructional routines. While sessions are always personalized to each student, many of the activities and strategies I use are influenced by the following approaches:
Orton–Gillingham (Literacy)
Orton–Gillingham is a structured, systematic approach to reading instruction that focuses on explicitly teaching the relationships between sounds and letters. It uses multi-sensory techniques so students can see, say, hear, and manipulate sounds while learning to read and spell. This approach is especially helpful for building strong phonemic awareness and phonics skills.
Handwriting Without Tears (Writing Foundations)
Some aspects of Handwriting Without Tears inform the way early writing and fine-motor skills are introduced. This approach emphasizes simple letter formation, developmentally appropriate sequencing, and hands-on materials that make handwriting easier and less frustrating for young learners.
Singapore Math (Mathematical Thinking)
Singapore Math focuses on developing deep conceptual understanding rather than memorizing procedures. Students move through a progression of concrete → pictorial → abstract representations so they can visualize mathematical ideas before working with numbers and symbols.
Many of the learning activities available in the shop are inspired by these approaches and designed to help students practice important skills through engaging games and hands-on exploration. You can also explore the blog for spotlights on specific skills and strategies that support early literacy, math development, and kindergarten readiness.
R.I.S.E. Learning was founded by a former classroom teacher and is designed to provide thoughtful, individualized instruction for young learners.
Each session is carefully planned using engaging, research-informed activities that build foundational academic skills while also supporting confidence and motivation. With classroom experience and a deep understanding of early learning development, instruction focuses on meeting students where they are and helping them make meaningful progress.
Just as importantly, strong relationships with students and families are a central part of the learning process.
Student progress is monitored through ongoing observation, skill-based activities, and informal assessments during tutoring sessions. After sessions, parents receive detailed summaries that highlight the skills practiced, progress observed, and areas to continue developing.
I also welcome ongoing communication with families and, when appropriate, can collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure tutoring supports the student’s school goals.
R.I.S.E. Learning takes a whole-child approach to tutoring, supporting both academic growth and confidence. Sessions are designed to create a positive environment where students feel comfortable taking risks, asking questions, and celebrating progress.
Some key strategies include:
Creating a Positive Learning Environment
Students are encouraged to participate, explore ideas, and learn from mistakes in a supportive and respectful setting.
Personalized Instruction
Activities are adapted to match each student’s learning style, pace, and skill level.
Building Strong Relationships
Taking time to understand each student’s interests, strengths, and challenges helps create meaningful and engaging learning experiences.
Promoting a Growth Mindset
Students are encouraged to view challenges as opportunities to learn and grow through persistence and effort.
Integrating Social-Emotional Skills
Activities often incorporate opportunities for collaboration, communication, and self-reflection to support confidence and resilience.
After creating an account with R.I.S.E. Learning, you will have access to the student dashboard and scheduling calendar. From there, you can view available sessions and book appointments based on the type of session you’re interested in.
If you do not see a time that works with your schedule, you’re always welcome to reach out directly at info@riselearningoc.com to discuss additional options.
To accommodate the varying needs of students and families, the tutoring schedule is updated monthly. This may result in changes to session availability and timing.
The following month’s schedule is typically released one to two weeks before the start of the new month, and families can opt in to receive a notification when new sessions become available.
For families seeking ongoing support, consistent weekly tutoring times may be available through long-term tutoring agreements offered in three-month billing cycles. This allows families to reserve a specific session time for private or small group instruction.
If you are interested in reserving a consistent time, please reach out directly for more details about availability and scheduling.
R.I.S.E. Learning offers tutoring that supports many of the skills commonly expected during the kindergarten admissions process, including social-emotional development, early literacy and math readiness, and independence.
While tutoring can help students build confidence and strengthen foundational skills, admission decisions ultimately depend on many factors. For this reason, R.I.S.E. Learning cannot guarantee acceptance to any specific school.
The goal is to help students feel prepared, confident, and comfortable during the admissions process.
