Segmenting Sound Smash

$2.75Price

This interactive activity provides explicit practice in phoneme segmentation and early word mapping using a hands-on play dough smash format. Students select a CVC picture card, say each sound in the word, and press or “smash” play dough into the corresponding sound spaces, reinforcing one-to-one sound correspondence. An optional writing component allows students to record the word on handwriting lines, supporting spelling and letter formation.

This resource includes both color and black-and-white options to support flexible printing. Play dough is needed for this activity, as students use it to represent each sound within the word. The activity aligns with structured literacy principles by strengthening phonemic awareness while connecting sounds to written letters in an engaging, multi-sensory way.
